Welcome! This page provides SFQG members with information about the entry process for QUILT SF 2025. Please read this page in full before proceeding to the entry form. Your entries will NOT be processed unless you mark a checkbox on the entry form to signify that you understand and agree to ALL requirements and conditions herein.

Entry Requirements
- You must be a SFQG member to enter the show. The Quilt Show entry form can be found on the Members Only page.
- The entry must not have been displayed at a previous SFQG quilt show and must be new work completed after April 1, 2023..
- Entry will begin January 1, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. The deadline to complete entry forms and pay the entry fee is February 21, 2025 at midnight.
- Each entry form must include an uploaded photo of your quilt or wearable.
Basic Information
- If you have questions about which Category to enter your quilt, please contact Sumilu Cue or Judy Epstein-Williams.
- If you have questions with the Quilt Entry Process, please contact Michelle Trimble at quilt.san.francisco@gmail.com.
- No more than four Quilts per member may be entered in the show. Does not include Challenge Quilts or Youth Quilts.
- Members may also enter up to four Wearables as well as one Challenge Quilt.
- You must choose one category for each item entered.
- Except for Youth Quilts and Challenge Quilts, which are for display only, you can choose whether or not to have your quilt or wearable judged.
- Satellite House drop-off locations and dates will be announced in January on the SFQG website and in the newsletter.
- To collect your entries, please present your claim form at the pick-up table about one hour after the close of the show.
- You are responsible for insuring your quilt(s)/wearable(s) if desired. Neither the SFQG nor the Event Center at St. Mary’s Cathedral will insure any entries and are not responsible if items are lost, stolen, or damaged.
- Please list quilts in order of preference. Every attempt will be made to display all entries but the SFQG reserves the right to decide the number of items per person to be displayed, in the event of a space shortage.
- By entering the show, you are granting the SFQG permission to take photographs of your item(s) and use them, along with identifying details, on the SFQG web site, on social media, in promotional activities, and in public venues.

- An ID label must be attached to each item you enter.
- The Claim Check PDF must be present it in order to pick up your item(s) after the close of show on Saturday.
Volunteer Expectations:
- Use our SignUp to volunteer for the 2025 QUILT Show.
- Everyone exhibiting a quilt or wearable is expected to work at least two shifts for the show. Shifts are either two or three hours long and include sitting and standing roles.
- Shifts can take place during the show or prior to the show. Volunteer opportunities include working with layout, hosting a satellite house, assisting with quilt intake, scribing or holding quilts for the judges, hanging quilts, helping attendees on projects at the Makers Table, taking down quilts, etc.

Category
- On the entry form, please choose only one category that best fits your work.
- Categories are Applique, Art, Challenge, Group/Bee/Round Robin, Hand Quilted, Modern, Special Techniques, Traditional Pieced, Youth, and Wearables & Accessories–this category includes Traditional Pieced, Upcycled Garments, and Bags. Details can be found here.
- Quilt committee reserves the right to change or combine categories if necessary.
Judging & Ribbons
- You can choose whether or not to have your quilt judged. We strongly encourage you to do so.
- Qualified and Experienced Judges will assess the quilts entered for judging. They will scrutinize entries for areas of excellence and areas needing improvement based on general appearance, design, composition, and workmanship. Meet our 2025 Judges here.
- Ribbons for First, Second, Third, and Honorable Mention may be awarded in the categories listed above. Special ribbons include Best Use of Color, Best Original Design, Most Whimsical, Best Embellishment, Excellence in Hand Workmanship, Judges’ Choice, Viewers’ Choice, and Best in Show.
- All Youth Quilts will receive Participation Ribbons and will not be judged. Junior Members may enter their quilts in other categories if they would like their quilt to be judged.

Youth Quilters
- The SFQG wishes to nurture a new generation of quilters and encourages teens to join as Junior Members and to enter their work in the show, whether judged or not judged.
- Members may include quilts made by their young child/grandchild, sixteen years and under, on their own entry form. In the Quilt Description please include the child’s name, age, how you worked together, and remember to upload a photograph of their quilt.
Photographing Your Quilt
- You must upload a photo of your quilt(s) to your Online Entry Form.
- Each photo should show the entire quilt top with space around the edges.
- Photos should be of good quality, and no larger than 10MB. Most cell phone photos, if taken in proper light are acceptable.
- Title quilt images with your Last Name and a numeral, like Smith1.jpg.
- The photos are not for publication, but will be used for layout and placement purposes.
Quilt Preparation
- You must sew a 4” sleeve to the top of your quilt.
- All entries must be clean, smoke free, and odor free. Any lint and animal fur should be removed.
Wearables and Accessories Information
- Members may enter Full Ensembles or Individual Articles of wearable art. No items constructed from kits are allowed.
- An Individual Article is one single item like a vest, jacket, dress, or coat.
- A Full Ensemble is a garment or group of garments that is ready to wear in public without other items. Examples include suit ensembles or evening ensembles composed of separate top and bottom.
- Members must create their wearable item(s) from start to finish.
- Commercially manufactured support garment(s) may be included with each Individual Article to dress the mannequin. Examples: Individual Articles, such as a vest, jacket, or coat, need a dress, shirt/blouse, and skirt/pants.
- Wearables may be embellished in any way, including painting or surface embellishment. Commercial clothing patterns may be used for the shape of the garment.
- Members may also include accent or accessory pieces that they created from start to finish, such as a purse, scarf, hat, etc. Jewelry is not allowed.

Challenge Quilt Information
- The Challenge Theme for QUILT San Francisco 2025 is Challenging Fabrics. The guild is providing three fabrics, donated by Sue Fox from the stash of past Challenge Quilt organizer, Laraine Salmon. These fabrics will be provided in kits to members until they are gone. Laraine was the former award-winning Challenge Quilt organizer who passed April 3, 2023.
- Challenge Quilts should be approximately 20” x 20”.
- The online entry form for Challenge Quilts is included as an option separate from the general quilt categories. NO photograph is required to enter your Challenge Quilt.
