The SFQG Welcomes
Maren Larsen & Hillary Goodwin
Our Featured Member Artist:
Maren Larsen
Maren Larsen is a self-taught quilter with a passion for sewing that began in childhood. Before learning the basics of sewing, Maren was already experimenting with fabric, using tape to hold together her “designs” and proudly wearing them outside—much to the amusement (and occasional embarrassment) of her family.
Today, Maren is best known for her traditional quilts, often incorporating scrappy, string, English paper pieced, or Civil War-inspired designs. Her favorite part of the quilting process is selecting fabrics and playing with color, combining them in creative and unique ways.
Maren has been an active member of the San Francisco Quilters Guild since 1980. Over the years, she has served in many roles, including president, program committee member, secretary, and Sewcials coordinator. Her dedication to the craft has earned her numerous awards for her quilting work.
A passionate teacher and mentor, Maren loves sharing her love of quilting with others. She introduces her elementary students to the art, teaches classes, and actively supports fellow quilters with techniques and guidance. Her enthusiasm continues to inspire and enrich the quilting community around her.
Our Featured Guest Artist:
Hillary Goodwin
hillarygoodwin.com @EntropyAlwaysWins
Hillary Goodwin is a Modern Quilter who believes creativity is best served with a dash of imperfection and a dollop of “making it up as you go”. Her quilts have won international awards, been widely exhibited and published. She believes quilts are a perfect format for expressing the challenges and beauty of life.
When not at her day job as an ER doctor in Northern California, she can be found corralling chaos in her studio with a 1/4 seam allowance.
